There is an old saying;
“Every now and the beautiful Angels appear cleverly disguised as ordinary human beings!”
In May 2001 I was working or should I say “slaving”, 7 days a week, 14 hours a day, in a hot, greasy, takeaway chicken business I had purchased some 18 months earlier, when I had a call from an old friend, Nick Tsalikis.
Nick and I were involved in the Captain Snooze Franchise for many years. Nick had resigned as a director with the group some years before and I was previously a Franchise Owner of the Sunshine Coast Captain Snooze Store before selling the business in 1995.
Nick had a vision of opening a chain of “speciality” mattress Franchises called “Sleepy's”. and asked me if I would like to buy the Sunshine Coast Franchise……Nick Tsalikis was my “Angel!!”
We opened two stores at Kawana and Maroochydore and the Franchise model was so successful, that from 2002 until 2007, when I eventually sold the stores , we had captured over 25% of the local market and from a turnover of zero were turning over in excess of $3 Million dollars!!
Success like this no doubt comes from a lot of hard work, but not 14 hours a day and 7 days a week! Not only was the business very profitable , it gave me a lifestyle of fun, relaxation and happiness I had never experienced.
The secret was to follow the formula and direction by the Franchisors that were in place at that time and to work together towards a common goal, of success and profitability for everyone. Working together as a team with the Franchisor was the key and showing initiative and drive to promote within our local market also resulted in big success for us.
Since selling the stores in 2007, and looking for a similar business that has the return, lifestyle and work environment, I can honestly say, there is NOTHING that compares to Sleepy's.
